From June 13, 1923 Newspaper (Could be The Binghamton Press but not sure) Conference Divides Vestal M.E. Charge Growth of Village Gives Rise to Forward Step by appointment of Rev. Charles A. Winters to Vestal Center Owing to the rapid growth of Vestal, situated a mile south of Endicott, and on the opposite side of the Susquehanna river, the Vestal M.E. charge was divided at last night’s meeting of the Vestal quarterly conference. The Rev. William H. Cadwell will continue in charge of the church at Vestal, while the Rev. Charles A. Winters of Court street and Mason avenue, this city, will have charge of activities at Vestal Center. The Vestal church, which has been remodeled, renovated and enlarged, at an outlay of $10,000, will be dedicated Sunday morning, July 15, by the Rev. George S. Connell of this city, superintendent of Binghamton district, who presided at last night’s meeting of the quarterly conference. With the influence of new families into Vestal village, the Rev. Cadwell finds it impossible to suitably cover his field at Vestal and at the same time drive two or three times a week to the out appointment at Vestal Center, situated six miles south. Accordingly, the Rev. Mr. Cadwell will remain in charge at Vestal, and the work at Vestal Center will be directed by the Rev. Mr. Winters, an Endicott Johnson employee. For several years he has been in charge of the Choconut charge and made his residence at Choconut Center, near Stella. He recently moved to a new home at Court street and Mason avenue. Superintendent to Preside The rededication services will be in charge of the Rev. Mr. Connell, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Cadwell. A program of suitable addresses and songs will be given. The Rev. and Mrs. Cadwell are noted for their musical ability. |
